The star has given the complete sum of his £25k Mercury Prize winnings to the MVT, which functions to preserve the Britain's small concert spaces.

Fender was given the cheque on mid-October as his third album his work was declared the top album of the previous year.

The musician has chosen to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his early career.

"I personally would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was starting out," remarked Sam Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by adding a modest fee to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

He also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his live tour to support 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds helped venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to difficulties arising from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and sound issues.

Some locations obtained monetary aid in upgrading amenities and gear that helped musicians and concertgoers.

"The idea that revenue from performances in major spaces supports the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," the star has stated.

Also winners that year the group gave their prize to a MS organization after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"Winning was ample," remarked vocalist the singer. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted the lives of others."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had rescued a couple of local spots in south-east England, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in that area and the second in that location were acquired under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by a national body and supporters who purchase "shares" in the venues.
